Pony Shack Cider and In Good Taste are here this week, we have two wonderful nonprofit guests, and our live music will be by Gentle Temper. The Wakefield Farmers Market is bringing local farm fare, specialty foods, and artisan products to Hall Park (next to Veterans Field, GPS 468 North Ave Wakefield MA) each Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. through October 13, 2018.
Featuring live music, a balloon magician, and cooking demos most weeks, and a Kid’s Activity Tent stocked with drawing materials, plus hula hoops, jump ropes, and sidewalk chalk, and special events throughout the season, it’s a great place to shop, have a picnic, play, or just hang out on the shore of Lake Quannapowitt.
Gentle Temper is a duo featuring Marion Earley and Ryan Meier, hailing from Boston, MA. Marion and Ryan met while attending Berklee College in Boston and began writing and playing together in their fourth year. Their live sound builds on a sturdy foundation of lyrical storytelling, animated harmonies, and instrumental development. Just last month they won The MAIN EVENT – Lizard Lounge Open Mic Challenge and they are in the process of releasing their debut full length album, “Our Warm Red Light.” The Wakefield Farmers Market Music Program is sponsored by The Savings Bank.
Our amazing cooking demo chef Suman Shah was called out of the country for a few weeks but there will be someone doing demos in the meantime, most likely Market Manager (and demo chef in 2016) Wendy Dennis, creating and sharing tasty and nutritious recipes from produce from the market that morning. You will find links to Suman’s and other WFM recipes at wfmmarketkitchen.site. Our Market Kitchen Tent and Farm/Food Education sponsor is the Wakefield Cooperative Bank.
Hartshorne House volunteers will be here to share information about this historic house (the oldest in Wakefield) and their very popular Annual Ice Cream Social coming up on August 9. The Wakefield Human Rights Commission will also be on hand to share information about their wonderful programs and how you can get involved.
Here are the vendors expected on August 4: The Bread Shop, Charlton Orchards, Deano’s Pasta, Emmetts Edibles, Farmer Dave’s, Flats Mentor Farm, Goodies Homemade, Habibi Gourmet Food, In Good Taste, Kelly’s Farm, Lilac Hedge Farm, Pony Shack Cider, Pour Man’s Coffee, Roberto’s Seafood, and Swiss Bakers. Artisans: A&D Books and Sheepshed. Note: Some vendors come each week, some biweekly, and some occasionally. See our website for details and updates.
The market offers “Market Bucks” that can be purchased for use with vendors via credit/debit cards or SNAP/EBT and will again be matching SNAP purchases up to $10 per visit so that everyone can afford to get fresh and healthy foods at our market. Plus, for SNAP folks: HIP is back! Use your EBT card to shop with Farmer Dave’s first, then get your additional market bucks.
Wakefield Farmers Market runs RAIN OR SHINE (except in dangerous weather, e.g. lightning or hurricane conditions). The market opens at 9:00 a.m. and closes at 1:00 p.m. every Saturday starting June 16 through October 13, 2018. Please visit wakefieldfarmersmarket.org for a current listing of vendors, live music, and special events and to sign up for our email newsletter. You can also find us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr. See you at the market!
