Seeking to Hire a Market Day Coordinator and More for our Wakefield MA Farmers Market
Do you support local agriculture? Do you have excellent project and event management skills? Are you great at marketing and writing? Are you in tune with our local community? Are you fit enough to lift up to 40 pounds and set up a tent or two?
Or, can you do or learn how to do accounting and bookkeeping using Quickbooks online? Then we have some jobs for you.
The board of Wakefield Climate Action Project (WCAP) is seeking a Market Day Coordinator and also an EBT/CC Market Bucks Bookkeeper to help with all the details of running the Wakefield Farmers Market.
NOTE: The rest of this text describes the overall responsibilities of a Market Manager. At this time we are looking at having a WCAP Board liaison taking on the overall Market Manager role with at least two employees taking on the on-site management and some PR and the bookkeeping aspects of the position.
These positions are perfect for anyone who is: committed to supporting local agriculture, loves creating a strong community atmosphere, enjoys logistical challenges, loves to write, and is comfortable using or learning to use Quickbooks, MS Office programs, WordPress, Mailchimp and social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.).
The job also entails a fair amount of lifting and being on one’s feet for a number of hours during each of the 18 Saturday market days. While the market needs at least some attention year-round, most of the work takes place from March through October, with the bulk of it during the18 week market season from mid June to mid October, with coverage needed by the Market Manager, at least one of the Co-Managers, or, on an emergency basis, a trained volunteer, on each Saturday market day.
Note: The current Market Manager (Wendy Dennis) will take care of all the pre-2018 opening day tasks until a new Market Manager is in place.
As noted, the work can be divided between two Co-Market Managers based on specific strengths and preferences, but each member of a co-managing team must be qualified to take on any of the necessary tasks involved in managing the market.
Along with being an exciting opportunity to contribute to our community, this position is also a great resume-builder, whether you are just starting out or rekindling career plans.
This position pays $15 an hour and is currently budgeted for 330 hours or 165 hours split between the two Co-Market Managers. To apply, send a letter explaining why you are interested in and feel you are qualified for this position along with your resume and three references to WCAP, PO Box 1426 Wakefield MA 01880 or email to [email protected]
