July 13 Market Day: Live Music, Fresh Summer Produce, Cooking Demo & More

Saturday, July 13 the market will be full of freshly picked fruits, veggies, locally raised meats, out of this world dairy, and specialty foods you won’t find on the supermarket shelf.  Plus fresh cut flowers, live music, local artisans, kid activities and more.  The weather predictions say no rain! The Wakefield Farmers Market takes place at Hall Park (next to Veterans Field, GPS 468 North Ave Wakefield MA) each Saturday through October 12, 2019.

Saturday’s market day will feature live music by Patiño Vazquez of Los Sugar Kings, a Boston-based quartet known for their dynamic live performances, as they perform music that is based on Agro-Cuban music along with influences from nearly every continent in a unique roots-rock-reggae fusion repertoire. We look forward to hearing Patino’s solo performance. The Wakefield Farmers Market Music Program is sponsored by The Savings Bank.

Our guest chef Wendy Dennis, will be preparing something healthy, and delicious, using produce and ingredients chosen that morning from our market. Thanks to The Wakefield Cooperative Bank, our Market Kitchen Tent and Farm/Food Education sponsor. 

Yarrow, our magical and trusty balloon twisting artist will be here. Kayla Russell is back this week, creating beautiful henna tattoos.  As always, have hula hoops, sidewalk chalk, and jump ropes on hand for kids of all ages, and the Kid’s Activity tent will be set up and stocked with plenty of paper, crayons, as well.

Our nonprofit guest Communitas (formerly known as EMARC) will be here sharing information about their organization.  Communitas, is a non-profit organization that delivers individualized, family-centered services, programs and support for people of all abilities, across their lifespan and in Wakefield and surrounding communities.

The Pop Up Library will be here this week! Stop by to take out a book or two, or even sign up for a library card.

Also, nonprofit guest, the Wakefield-Lynnfield Chamber of Commerce. Stop by to learn how the chamber can help you find great local businesses or how your business can benefit by becoming a member. 

A Call to Local Charitable Organizations! Now is the time to act if you would like a free spot at our market this season. Just go to the Nonprofit Group page on wakefieldfarmersmarket.org, review the guidelines to make sure you fit the criteria, and then download the application form and scan and email to [email protected] with a few possible dates. You can also mail your application to WFM, PO Box 1426 Wakefield MA 01880.

Now, here’s what you’ve been waiting for – the official list of week’s vendors!

Produce: Farmer Dave, Fay Mountain Farm, Kelly’s Farm will have plenty of in-season produce of all kinds, greens, herbs,  potted plants and fresh cut flowers.  Flats Mentor Farm is back with specialty Asian greens and herbs, all gorgeous to look at, scrumptious to taste. 

Pasture-raised Meats, Poultry, and Eggs: Lilac Hedge Farm will have all you need for locally raised meats, poultry, and farm fresh eggs.  Check out their yummy jerky type products. 

Seafood: Roberto’s Seafood will have plenty of fresh seafood on hand. You can even pre-order and have it ready for you at the market.  Call Roberto’s Seafood for details.

Cheese: West River Creamery. Along with the very best cheese, Jane will also have her delightful pickled produce and mustards.

Specialty Foods: Coutt’s Specialty Foods will have 100% natural jams, jellies and relishes, Deano’s Pasta delicious fresh pasta.  Fork on the Road brings vegetarian and vegan Market Day Meal Kits, inspired by the local harvest and Suman’s global pantry that include ingredients sourced direct from local producers. Plus her homemade spice blends, unique chutneys and snacks. Habibi Gourmet Food (Mediterranean fare), the best authentic, Egyptian and Lebanese food. 

Baked Goods: Goodies Homemade (the scones are the best), Swiss Bakers (try the Berliner!), The Bread Shop will have their famous cinnamon rolls, and Roasted Granola, which also offers locally made yogurt.

Beverages: Aaronap Cellars (wine) are showcasing the best in Northeast wine making. Tower Beverages will have their craft soda (the best ginger ale).  Pour Man’s Coffee is here, too, with the BEST ice coffee and other beverages, plus treats to enjoy at the market. They also sell Fair Trade coffee beans from Dean’s Beans to take home..

Pet Treats: Emmett’s Edibles, with healthy treats for your canine and feline friends.

Artisans:  All About Corks with cool creative cork products.  Jennifer’s Soap, artisan soaps and bath products.  Sarah’s Originals aprons, placemats, and more.  Trow’s Treasures herbal products to sooth the body, mind & spirit.  Also, Alison Simcox and Doug Heath with their books about Lake Quannapowitt, Breakheart, and recent award winner, The Fellsway.

The market will continue to accept both SNAP/EBT and credit/debit cards for the purchase of Market Bucks for shopping, and will again be matching SNAP purchases up to $10 per visit so that everyone can afford to get fresh and healthy foods at our market. And, Farmer Dave’s is again taking part in the Healthy Initiative Program (HIP). 

The Wakefield Farmers Market runs RAIN OR SHINE  (except in dangerous weather, e.g. lightning or hurricane conditions).  The market opens at 9:00 a.m. and closes at 1:00 p.m. every Saturday from mid-June to mid October. The 2019 season will run from June 15 through October 12.
