Coming soon! The Wakefield Farmers Market will open for the season on Saturday June 21 at its Hall Park location on the shores of Lake Quannapowitt.
The market will take place each Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. from June 21 through October 18, 2014. Opening day will feature great live music by students from Wakefield’s Onset School of Music, accompanied by the teaching staff, in what has become a great annual event at the market. Also, Yarrow the balloon twister will be there, possibly a face painting artist, and, as always, there will be sidewalk chalk and hula hoops for kids of all ages.
While we are still in the final planning stages, the season event calendar is filling up with live music featuring favorites such as Kevin G. Moore and banjo extraordinaires Ed Britt and Don Borchelt, visits from Curious Creatures and Drumlin Farm’s Audubon Ark, educational and arts activities for children, and, hopefully, cooking demonstrations.
Our market will feature 7 produce and/or meat/poultry farmers this year, 1 fish vendor, and, as of this time, 16 locally produced specialty food vendors, as well 12 artisan/craft vendors making regular or occasional visits, with an average of 20 vendors in attendance each week. We also feature a local nonprofit organization each Saturday.
We are very excited to welcome new vendors Bondat Foods, Lilac Hedge Farm, Roasted Granola, and Wendy Jo Metal Designs, and are pleased that West River Creamery (the best cheese in the world) and Vermont Gourmet Candy Dish will be traveling to the market together for a number of visits this year. And, drumroll please: We will have Freshly Brewed COFFEE at the market this year! Pour Man’s Coffee will be with us each week offering regular and specially flavored brewed and bagged organic and Fair Trade coffee from Dean’s Beans.
The market will continue to accept both SNAP/EBT and credit/debit cards, and will again be matching SNAP purchases up to $10 per visit so that everyone can afford to get fresh and healthy foods at our market.
We will be continuing our Carrot Campaign, a program designed to help farmers markets raise funds as well as raise awareness of farmers and farmers markets all across the country. “Carrots” will be available all season at the market, but to get an early start, be sure to stop by the Wakefield Farmers Market information tent at the Festival by the Lake on June 14 to buy a “Carrot” for yourself or a friend and, also, to sign up for a chance to win a gift certificate for $25 in Market Bucks.
The Wakefield Farmers Market runs RAIN OR SHINE (except in dangerous weather, e.g. lightening or hurricane conditions). The market opens at 9:00 a.m. and closes at 1:00 p.m. every Saturday starting June 21 through October 18, 2013. Please visit www.wakefieldfarmersmarket.org for a current listing of vendors and upcoming events and to sign up for our email newsletter. You can also find us on Facebook and Twitter. See you at the Market!
