ALL the News for July 28: Barefoot Books, Maple, Wine, Cheese, Melons, and More! Music by Amy Spillert, and the Best Vendors and View Around

Barefoot Books will be back for their second visit of the season, live music will be by Amy Spillert, the Wakefield-Lynnfield Chamber of Commerce will be with us, and West River Creamery is here this week but not next week. We will of course have plenty of local produce, cheese, wine, specialty foods, and artisan fare in our relaxing spot by the lake. The Wakefield Farmers Market takes place at Hall Park (next to Veterans Field, GPS 468 North Ave Wakefield MA) each Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. through October 13, 2018.

Market favorite Amy Spillert will be bringing live music starting around 10:00 a.m. Amy’s music is folky and upbeat, and she has a set of cover tunes that are a perfect fit for farmers markets, and fun family songs that all ages will enjoy. Plus, she has a beautiful voice! The Wakefield Farmers Market Music Program is sponsored by The Savings Bank.

The Wakefield-Lynnfield Chamber of Commerce is back as our guest this week. Be sure to stop by their tent to find out what our chamber of commerce is up to these days and learn of their plans for the future. Also, member businesses have been invited to supply information and promotional items to be available the chamber tent, so do stop by to see what our local businesses have to offer.

Suman Shah will be in the Market Kitchen Tent creating and sharing tasty and nutritious recipes from produce she gets at the market that morning. Last Saturday she made a simple yet amazingly tasty dish featuring green and yellow string beans and Thai basil. You will find links to her recipes at wfmmarketkitchen.site. Our Market Kitchen Tent and Farm/Food Education sponsor is the Wakefield Cooperative Bank.

We are here, rain or shine! But, weather permitting, Yarrow will be here working his magic with balloons, and Kayla our Henna Tattoo artist will be here, too. We will of course also have hula hoops, sidewalk chalk, and jump ropes on hand for kids of all ages, and the Kid’s Activity tent will be set up and stocked with plenty of paper and crayons.

Now, here’s what you’ve been waiting for – the official list of week’s vendors!

Produce: Charlton Orchards will have berries, tomatoes, plums and more. Kelly’s Farm and Farmer Dave’s will have even more of a variety of fruits, veggies, and berries. AND, I hear melon season is almost upon us and that there might be cantaloupe this week! Flats Mentor Farm will have their luscious Asian and other greens and herbs. Have you tried their Thai basil yet? Farmer Dave’s also carries locally grown and dried Baer’s Beans – the freshest dried legumes around.

Pasture-raised Meats, Poultry, and Eggs: Lilac Hedge Farm will have all you need for locally raised meats, poultry, and eggs, along with their honey. They have duck and lamb, along with chicken, beef, and pork. They also have tasty jerky type products, as well, perfect for a quick snack.

Cheese:  Jane of West River Creamery will be here after all with the very best cheese and her pickled veggies and mustards NOTE: Be sure to stock up because (and I doubled checked this) she will indeed NOT be here on August 4 but will be back August 11.

Seafood: Roberto’s Seafood has the best catch and the best price. Stop by to see what the fresh local catches of the day are this week. And remember, you can cook seafood on the grill, or even put your frying pan on the grill so all tht fish-fry smell stays outside.

Specialty Foods: Coutt’s Specialty foods with lovely traditional preserves, Deano’s Pasta (with sauce, too) Habibi Gourmet Food, with the best Mediterranean foods, and Farmer Dave’s has marina and hot sauces and more made from their produce in their farm kitchen.

Baked Goods: Goodies Homemade (the BEST Cookies and more), Swiss Bakers (baked goods and super sandwiches) The Bread Shop (lovely artisan loaves and more), are here, as is Roasted Granola, with hands down the best granola, hopefully with yogurt this week. Plus, Farmer Dave’s will have Farmer Jane’s amazing strawberry and other types of sweet breads and crisps using fruits from their farm.

Beverages: We have wine this week from Aaronap Cellers. You can sample before deciding which wine to purchase. They are all excellent. And Tower Craft Beverages is here, too, with the best root and ginger beers and more. Pour Man’s Coffee is here, too, with the BEST ice coffee and other beverages, plus treats to enjoy at the market. They also sell Fair Trade coffee beans from Dean’s Beans to take home.

Pet Treats: Stop by Emmett’s Edibles to get some healthy treats for your dogs, and cats, too – your pets will love you for it.

Artisans: Barefoot Books is back with awared-winning books and more for children, Be U By Rumi is here with handcrafted jewelry, and A&D Books is back as well, with their books about our Lake Quannapowitt, as well as Breakhart Reservation and their recent award winner about The Fellsway.

Sneak Peek: Gentle Temper will provide live music on 8/4, and we’ll have the Wakefield Human Rights Commission and the Hartshorne House here as our guests.
