All The News for 7/14/18: Barefoot Books, Maple, Cheese is Back, Tower Beverages, Farmers Market Meal Kits, Local 104.9 Radio, Fun for Kids, & More!

Barefoot Books is here this week, as is local radio station North Shore 104.9 to provide music, and there will be plenty of local produce, cheese, wine, and other specialty foods and artisan products this week. The Wakefield Farmers Market brings local farm fare, The Wakefield Farmers Market takes place at Hall Park (next to Veterans Field, GPS 468 North Ave Wakefield MA) each Saturday through October 13, 2018.

North Shore 104.9 Radio will be at the market on July 14 for their first visit of this season. Known as your “hometown radio station on the FM dial,” they have a great time entertaining shoppers and create a really great market vibe. Expect fun giveaways and a lot of good tunes!

NEWSFLASH: Heard of Blue Apron? Well, we now have Farmers Market Meal Kits! Created by our cooking demo chef Suman Shah each market day using produce available at the market, you will find them at the Market Kitchen Tent, right next to the Market Manger tent. You get to sample it before purchasing, too, because Suman will be making the recipe right there at the market. You will find links to all of Suman’s recipes at

SPECIAL GUEST: The Wakefield-Lynnfield Chamber of Commerce will be our guest this week. As a W-L Chamber member, the Wakefield Farmers Market knows about all the great work done by the chamber on behalf of local businesses and the larger community. Be sure to stop by their tent to find out what our chamber of commerce is up to these days and their plans for the future, as well as to learn about some of our local businesses and what THEY have to offer.

Yarrow will be here working his magic with balloons, and Kayla our Henna Tattoo artist will be here as well. Plus, we’ve had a face painter coming, as well! We will of course also have hula hoops, sidewalk chalk, and jump ropes on hand for kids of all ages, and the Kid’s Activity tent will be set up and stocked with plenty of paper, crayons

Produce: We are still waiting on the early plums from Charlton Orchards – maybe this week – but they will be sure to have plenty of berries on hand. Along with Asian and other greens and herbs, I am hoping Flats will have their first squash blossoms of the season. You will find more and more lovely produce of a growing number of sorts at Kelly’s Farm and Farmer Dave’s, plus tasty canned, dried and baked goods from Dave’s farm kitchen made from their own fruits and veggies.

Pasture-raised Meats, Poultry, and Eggs: Lilac Hedge Farm will have all you need for locally raised meats, poultry, and eggs, along with their honey. They also have tasty jerky type products, as well, perfect for a quick snack. Remember, you can grill or sear steak from frozen. Also, chops and ground beef can be defrosted in cold water in just a few hours. Be sure to find an follow defrosting instructions for safety’s sake.

Cheese: West River Creamery is back this week with amazing cheeses that are just to die for. Jane also has tasty pickled veggies and mustards that will compliment any meal or table.
Seafood: Robert’s Seafood has the best catch and the best price. I’ve personally had their swordfish and their scallops so far.  EXCELLENT. We are glad to have them with us!

Maple: Ackermann’s Maple Farm is here for their biweekly visit. Along with just plain ol’ delicious maple syrup, they have barrel aged types as well and offer samples at the market. They have other maple treats as well.

Specialty Foods: Coutt’s Specialty Foods (classic preserves) Deano’s Pasta (with sauce, too) Habibi Gourmet Food, with the best Mediterranean foods,!) are here plus Farmer Dave’s has marina and hot sauces and more made from their produce in their farm kitchen.

Baked Goods: Goodies Homemade (the BEST Cookies and more), Swiss Bakers (super sandwiches) The Bread Shop (lovely artisan loaves and more), and Roasted Granola, which also offers locally made yogurt for a great breakfast match. Plus, Farmer Dave’s will have Farmer Jane’s amazing strawberry and other types of sweet breads and crisps using fruits from their farm.

Beverages: Aaronap Cellers is here this week with their amazing local wines. Come try before you buy.  Pour Man’s Coffee will, as always, be here with the BEST ice coffee and other beverages, plus treats to enjoy at the market. They also sell Trade coffee beans from Dean’s Beans to take home.

Pet Treats: Emmett’s Edibles is here with healthy treats for your dogs, and cats, too – made with love, of course.

Artisans: Barefoot Books is here with fantastic books and other educational items for kids. Please stop by and welcome Jennifer Shay, our new Barefoot Books Ambassador! Be U By Rumi will be here with beautiful jewelry, too. We are also expecting Alison Simcox and Doug Heath will also be here with their books about Lake Quannapowitt, Breakheart, and recent award winner The Fellsway.

Sneak Peek:  Singer Songwriter Julie Doherty will be here on 7/21, and we’ll have a dual purpose nonprofit visit with Friends of Lake Quannapowitt sharing space with Sustainable Wakefield, plus the Pop Up Library is here for their monthly visit..
